Pearls of Wisdom

God’s Word is full of Him, Who is Wisdom. Jesus is spoken of as the Wisdom of God. In the Bible the book of Proverbs is a definite book of wisdom, which is to be studied. This page is dedicated to bringing the wisdom of God’s Word to you so that you may find daily wisdom for your own life.

The Faith of the Wise Men

We are going to talk today about the faith of the wise men. Let’s look at the passage regarding their journey to see Jesus.

Matthew 2:1-12
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judaea, art not the least among the princes of Judaea: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 9When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

The wise men had to have faith to believe that the star they had seen would direct them to the King of the Jews. They had studied the stars and knew what this star meant. They traveled to find this King. The had come to worship Him Who was the King of the Jews. They knew from the Word of God that in Bethlehem in Judea would be born one who would be over His people Israel. Of course, they didn’t know Him as Jesus. They just knew what they had read and seen.

They followed the star until they came to the Christ, where they rejoiced with exceeding great joy and bowed down and worshipped him when they found Him. And they came bearing gifts, I am sure at the Lord’s direction, because some scholars say that these gifts gave them the finances they needed to go to Egypt. I don’t know that that is true. These were gifts fit for a King---only the best that they had. There are various explanations regarding these gifts. All I know is that they had come with gifts for a King.

Their faith in God extended to being obedient to a dream warning them not to return to Herod. Obedience was a key factor for these wise men in the role they played in the birth of Jesus.

We can see so far that the obedience of each person or people involved in the birth of Jesus played a role in the overall picture of His coming to this earth----Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and now the wise men.

As we look at this picture in regards to today’s scenario, we see lessons we can take to heart. We are to come with our gift to Jesus and worship Him with exceeding great joy. We are to be obedient to what the Spirit of God tells us. We are to follow His directions, His instructions. We must believe Him when He gives us His Word. We must have faith in His Word to produce the results He tells us it will do. He tells us in Isaiah 55 that His Word will not return to Him void, without producing results.

We are to see ourselves as significant in terms of the big picture. The part we play in obedience in our lives produces a big picture. You see, we can only see the smaller portion we have unless the Spirit of God opens up the scene and shows us the entire picture. It is like a puzzle that is put together. You are just one piece but together, we all make one beautiful picture called the Body of Christ. Never consider what you do to be insignificant. You are very important to the Father, to Jesus and to the Holy Spirit. Never underestimate your value, your worth. You are of great worth. After all, the Son of God came to this earth for you that you might become a member of the family. What a God! What a plan!

This Christmas season, let the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Redeemer, the Savior, show you just how valuable you are to His Kingdom. And you show Him just how valuable He is to your life by giving Him the greatest gift you have----yourself, your heart totally. You know, we can be born again and hold back portions of our life from being His. Many times, there are closed doors in our heart that we have not let anyone into, including Jesus. Give Him all you have, everything. It will be well worth it to you.

Rejoice with exceeding great joy for your Kind has come to rule and reign in your heart, in your life. Let Him sit on the throne of your heart forever. There is no one greater than He is. There is no one Who loves you more than He does. There is no one who will take care of you like He can.

REJOICE WITH EXCEEDING GREAT JOY!
