God's Covering
But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits.
For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with good-will (pleasure and favor).
When we trust the Lord, when we take refuge in Him (for our protection), we can rejoice. We can sing and shout for joy. Why? He makes a covering over us who trust Him. Our praises and rejoicing creates a covering of joy for us, the joy of the Lord. His joy protects us and serves as a covering, as a protection for us wherever we are. The Lord protects us; He defends us against our enemies. What are some of these enemies? Doubt, unbelief, fear, anxiety, poverty, sickness and disease, lack, want, oppression, depression, loneliness, rejection, bitterness, unforgiveness. These are our enemies sent to steal God’s joy from us and render us helpless instead of joyful. When we are full of joy (and it doesn’t depend on our circumstances), there is nothing for our enemy to grab hold of. In the middle of the worst circumstances of our lives, we can stand and rejoice, deliberately, on purpose, and do totally the opposite of what we are feeling.
Then in verse 12 we see that the Lord will bless us, His children, with favor like a shield of protection. Everywhere we go, we will have favor. We will be blessed wherever we go. The Blessing of the Lord will go before us, behind us, surround us.
These two scriptures are powerful for us as God’s children. Ponder them today for your life.
