What Are You Wearing?

In Ephesians 6:10-18 we have very specific instructions concerning our clothing, our armor, which Romans 13:12 refers to as the armor of light. Adam and Eve were originally clothed with the Light of God and surrendered their protective clothing. Jesus Christ came and got it back for all of mankind. We will never have to be naked, uncovered again. Our armor is actually of the spirit and, therefore, inside. Humans are the only ones who are clothed on the outside. The animals grow feathers, fur, etc. from the inside outward to cover themselves. That is the way Adam and Eve were clothed. They were clothed with the Presence of God from the inside out. We now have the same privilege. We are instructed to put on our clothing ourselves. God provides it and tells us to wear it in our spirit man. When we are born again and then baptized with the Holy Spirit, we have God Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit (the power of God, the light of God, the love of God, the life of God, the anointing of God) residing inside us. We have all we need.

With the above information in mind, let’s look at Ephesians 6 regarding our armor.
Verses 10 and 11 begin this passage of scripture with commands:
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
We are to be strong in God’s power, His ability, His provision of power which no foe can withstand.
We are to put on the total armor, not missing a piece, that we may stand (victoriously in the victory of the Lord) against any cunning deceit or strategy of the enemy against us.

In verse 13 we are given the reason to put on God’s armor. We are not in contention with physical opponents. We are standing against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high (heavenly) places.

Once again, in verse 14 we are commanded to put on God’s complete armor so that we may be able to resist and stand firmly in place, keep our ground, regardless of the crisis or the evil that is sent against us. Having done all, having overcome all, we stand in the victory that is already purchased for us. It is ours. We must have that mentality. The battle has already been won for us by Jesus. What we have to do is to stand, maintaining the victory, with God’s armor in place, the clothing we have been provided, His very Presence, His very power, His Life force and nature.

Do you see the many things that we are to do, are commanded to do? God makes the provision and then we have to take what He provides for us and accept what He has given us, believe that His power works on our behalf.

Taking the rest of the verses listed we could state our position like this:

Only the Truth of God’s Word creates in my life.
(having loins girt with truth)

In my heart I know that I am righteous, right with God. That’s all I choose to know.
(having on the breastplate of righteousness)

My walk is in the pathway of God and His Word has prepared my pathway. It’s a pathway of wholeness.
(feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace)

I am surrounded by the faith of God, which comes from the Word, to quench all satan’s thoughts.
(above all, taking the shield of faith)

In my mind I know that I am delivered.
(take the helmet of salvation)

I carry the Word of God everywhere I go and use it.
(take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God)

I pray in the spirit all the time.
(praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit)

The whole armor is about Jesus, the living Word, being alive in us and surrounding us all the time by the power of the Spirit of God.
